Tweenies School is seeking a caring, experienced, and enthusiastic Pre-School Teacher to join its teaching team in Accra. Job Summary The Pre-School Teacher will create and deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences that support children’s academic, social, emotional, physical, and creative development. The successful candidate will create a warm and inclusive classroom, establish positive relationships with children and families, assess individual learning needs, and work collaboratively with colleagues to provide high-quality early-years education. The role also requires strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the successful candidate supporting classroom teams and contributing to effective teaching and learning practices. Key Responsibilities Create a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment. Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons and learning activities. Develop learning experiences that support children’s cognitive, language, physical, social, emotional, and creative development. Use play-based and child-centred teaching approaches to encourage curiosity, exploration, and active learning. Establish clear classroom routines, expectations, and positive behaviour-management practices. Build warm, respectful, and trusting relationships with children. Observe children regularly and assess their progress, strengths, interests, and individual learning needs. Maintain accurate records of children’s development, learning progress, attendance, and other relevant information. Adapt teaching strategies and activities to meet different learning abilities and developmental needs. Prepare engaging teaching materials, classroom resources, displays, and activities. Encourage children to develop independence, confidence, communication, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. Promote positive social behaviour, kindness, respect, sharing, and teamwork. Identify developmental or learning concerns and communicate them appropriately to school leadership and parents. Maintain a clean, organised, and child-friendly classroom environment. Follow all school policies and procedures relating to child protection, safeguarding, health, safety, and wellbeing. Supervise children carefully during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, transitions, and other school activities. Respond appropriately to children’s emotional and physical needs. Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians about children’s progress, behaviour, and development. Participate in parent meetings, school events, activities, and other community engagements. Collaborate with teachers, teaching assistants, school leadership, and support staff to promote effective learning. Support and guide classroom assistants and other team members where required. Provide constructive feedback and encourage high standards of performance within the classroom team. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, professional-development activities, and school improvement initiatives. Contribute ideas that strengthen teaching quality, classroom practice, and the overall learning experience. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and school information. Handle classroom challenges calmly and apply positive, age-appropriate solutions. Perform other teaching and supervisory duties assigned by school leadership. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or recognised qualification in Early Childhood Education, Education, Montessori Education, Child Development, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years’ relevant teaching and supervisory experience, preferably within a pre-school, nursery, kindergarten, or early-years educational environment. Demonstrated experience leading or supervising teachers, teaching assistants, or classroom teams. Strong understanding of early childhood development and age-appropriate teaching practices. Experience developing lesson plans and delivering engaging early-years learning activities. Knowledge of child safeguarding, health, safety, and wellbeing practices. Experience assessing children’s learning and developmental progress. Strong understanding of positive behaviour-management strategies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong classroom-management and organisational abilities. First Aid, child safeguarding, Montessori, or other relevant early-years certifications are an advantage.
