The school is seeking a caring, patient, energetic, and experienced One-to-One Child Support Assistant to provide dedicated support to a young and highly active child throughout the school day. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and school management to support the child’s learning, personal development, behaviour, safety, and overall wellbeing. Role Overview The One-to-One Child Support Assistant will provide individualized support that enables the child to participate meaningfully in classroom activities and develop greater independence. You will use patient, positive, and consistent approaches to help the child improve concentration, follow instructions, develop social skills, manage activity levels, and engage successfully in learning. This role requires someone who can build a trusting relationship with the child while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and consistently following the school’s safeguarding and child-protection procedures. Key Responsibilities Provide dedicated one-to-one supervision and support throughout the school day. Create a safe, positive, structured, and encouraging environment for the child. Support the child’s participation in classroom activities and reinforce learning provided by the class teacher. Provide individualized learning support based on the child’s needs and classroom objectives. Help the child improve attention, concentration, listening, and task completion. Encourage the child to follow instructions and participate appropriately in classroom routines. Support the development of hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and age-appropriate practical abilities. Support potty/toilet training and personal care in a respectful, patient, and age-appropriate manner. Encourage the development of independence in personal care, classroom routines, and everyday activities. Use positive and consistent strategies to manage high levels of activity and encourage appropriate behaviour. Help the child develop turn-taking, sharing, listening, communication, and social interaction skills. Break activities into manageable steps to help the child remain engaged and successfully complete tasks. Use creative and age-appropriate activities to maintain the child’s interest and participation. Observe the child’s behaviour, engagement, learning progress, and development and communicate relevant observations to the class teacher. Work closely with the class teacher to implement appropriate learning and behaviour-support strategies. Maintain clear and professional communication with teachers and school management. Support the child during transitions between activities, classrooms, outdoor areas, and other school settings. Accompany and supervise the child during breaks, activities, school events, and other approved activities. Maintain confidentiality regarding the child’s personal, educational, and family information. Follow all school policies relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct. Report safeguarding concerns, accidents, incidents, or significant behavioural changes promptly through the appropriate school procedures. Promote the child’s dignity, confidence, inclusion, and emotional wellbeing at all times. Qualifications & Experience Applicants should preferably have: A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Early Years, Teaching Assistance, Education, or an equivalent field. Previous experience working with young children in a school, nursery, childcare, or similar environment. Experience supporting a highly active child or a child who requires additional support with attention and concentration. A good understanding of child development and age-appropriate learning. Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles. Experience supporting children’s personal care and toileting needs. Strong understanding of positive behaviour-support approaches. Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other members of the school team. Strong communication, observation, and interpersonal skills.
