Silgh Engineering is seeking an experienced and technically capable Lead Running Tool/Installation Specialist to provide specialist leadership for running-tool preparation, installation, testing, deployment, retrieval, maintenance, and field-service activities. Role Overview The Lead Running Tool/Installation Specialist will lead the technical preparation and field execution of running-tool and installation activities, ensuring that equipment is correctly configured, tested, deployed, operated, and maintained in accordance with approved procedures and client requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with wellhead engineers, drilling and completion teams, field personnel, clients, contractors, and equipment manufacturers to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable installation services. Key Responsibilities 1. Running Tool Preparation & Installation Lead the preparation, assembly, inspection, and configuration of running tools before field deployment. Verify that running tools, accessories, and associated equipment meet approved technical specifications. Review installation procedures, drawings, equipment manuals, and technical work instructions. Coordinate running-tool installation and deployment activities in accordance with approved procedures. Verify correct tool configuration, connection, alignment, and operational readiness. Identify and resolve installation challenges promptly and safely. 2. Field Operations & Technical Execution Provide hands-on technical leadership during running-tool and wellhead installation operations. Coordinate field activities with drilling, completion, production, engineering, and client teams. Monitor equipment performance during installation and operational activities. Provide technical guidance to field technicians and other personnel. Troubleshoot equipment and operational issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Ensure field activities remain aligned with project schedules and operational requirements. 3. Testing & Equipment Verification Coordinate functional and pressure testing of running tools and associated equipment. Verify that testing procedures, pressures, configurations, and acceptance criteria meet approved requirements. Review test results and confirm equipment readiness before deployment. Identify equipment defects, abnormal conditions, or test failures and coordinate corrective action. Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, repairs, and equipment performance. 4. Wellhead & Pressure-Control Interface Work closely with wellhead engineers to ensure compatibility between running tools, wellhead systems, and pressure-control equipment. Verify correct interfaces between running tools and associated wellhead components. Support wellhead installation, retrieval, maintenance, and intervention activities where required. Provide technical input into tool selection and configuration based on operational requirements. Support troubleshooting of wellhead and running-tool interface issues. 5. HSE & Operational Risk Management Lead field activities in accordance with company, client, and site-specific HSE requirements. Participate in risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses, toolbox meetings, and pre-job planning. Ensure personnel follow approved procedures and safe systems of work. Identify and address operational hazards before and during installation activities. Stop or escalate activities where technical or safety conditions create unacceptable risk. Promote strong safety discipline across all field operations. 6. Equipment Maintenance & Reliability Coordinate inspection, servicing, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of running tools and associated equipment. Monitor equipment condition and identify potential failures before deployment. Maintain equipment service histories and inspection records. Recommend replacement, repair, or refurbishment where equipment condition requires action. Ensure tools remain properly maintained, certified, and fit for purpose. Support root-cause investigations into equipment failures and recurring problems. 7. Quality Assurance & Technical Compliance Ensure running-tool activities comply with approved engineering specifications, procedures, quality requirements, and client standards. Work closely with QA/QC personnel during inspection, testing, and installation activities. Verify equipment certification, inspection records, calibration records, and other required documentation. Identify and document non-conformances and support corrective actions. Maintain traceability of tools, components, inspections, and test results. 8. Client & Stakeholder Management Serve as a technical point of contact for clients during running-tool and installation activities. Participate in pre-job meetings, technical reviews, site meetings, and operational planning sessions. Communicate field progress, technical issues, risks, and recommendations clearly. Build effective working relationships with clients, contractors, vendors, and technical teams. Support resolution of technical and operational issues in a professional manner. 9. Reporting & Documentation Prepare detailed field-service, installation, inspection, testing, and operational reports. Document tool configuration, equipment condition, test results, operational performance, and corrective actions. Maintain accurate records of equipment deployment, retrieval, servicing, and maintenance. Support preparation of technical handover and close-out documentation. Capture lessons learned and recommend improvements to future operations. 10. Technical Leadership & Development Provide technical guidance and mentoring to running-tool technicians and field personnel. Support the development of standardized installation and running-tool procedures. Share technical knowledge, field experience, and lessons learned with the wider engineering team. Identify opportunities to improve tool reliability, installation efficiency, safety, and service quality. Stay current with developments in running-tool technology, wellhead systems, completion equipment, and field-service practices. Qualification Required & Experience Education Bachelor’s degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Oil & Gas Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Relevant technical certifications in wellhead systems, running tools, completion equipment, pressure-control systems, or oil and gas field operations will be an advantage. Relevant manufacturer or specialist running-tool training will be highly beneficial. Professional Experience 7–10 years of relevant professional experience in running-tool operations, wellhead installation, completion operations, field engineering, pressure-control services, or a related oil and gas discipline. Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing, assembling, testing, deploying, operating, and retrieving running tools. Practical experience working with wellhead systems, completion equipment, pressure-control equipment, or related field-service tools. Experience leading field installation activities and coordinating multidisciplinary teams. Experience troubleshooting running-tool and wellhead interface problems in field environments. Experience working with clients, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and technical service providers will be an advantage. Professional & Technical Competencies The successful candidate should demonstrate: Strong knowledge of running tools and wellhead installation systems. Practical understanding of running-tool assembly, deployment, retrieval, testing, and maintenance. Knowledge of wellhead and pressure-control equipment interfaces. Ability to interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, specifications, and operating procedures. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities. Knowledge of equipment integrity, inspection, pressure testing, and certification requirements. Strong understanding of oil and gas field-service practices and HSE requirements. Ability to prepare accurate technical and field-service documentation. Strong quality-control and technical-compliance awareness.
